September 12 – 13, 2014 – Malmo, Sweden
Just returned with John Platania from two amazing shows in Malmo, Sweden. Rootsy – the record co/ touring co that nurtured so many true artists – held their 10th anniversary at the precious turn-of-the-Century Victoria Theater.
Twelve great artists .. including Ellen Sudberg, Andi Almqvist, Richard Lindgren, Annika Fehling, Slow Fox (Sophia Henricsson), Hege Bryynildsen (from Norway) preceded John & me to the stage .. each making their own, inspired music – often backed by the great Roots band which included Johan (pedal steel, mandolin and more, Jonas (bass) & Marcus on drums ..what a soulful & awesome band!
John & I played a small set each night.. the songs (each selected to tribute Rootsy and it’s beloved founder, Hakan Olsson) included, Black & Blue America, Sweet Tequila Blues, Block Out The Sirens Of This Lonely World and Czechoslovakian Heaven. We closed each night with the great house band with a rockin’ version of The Real Thing and then .. with all the artists on stage .. a totally loose and spirited version of Wild Thing. John Platania was, as usual, so soulful and special. And so appreciated!
What memorable and great nights! Thanks to Christian for the awesome sound – much appreciated!
After the show
So good to say hello to old friends Anders & Maria.. and Lars & Marita & Jan Ake.. new friends Annike & Per Olof .. and Charlie and so many other kind folks that said hello and wished us well. It was especially good to see Halden, Norway friends Kai & Tom & Freddie & Omar & the great Hege! Hope to see you soon at Siste Reis! While we’re there Omar .. I’ll remind you (several times) of the amazing job you and Hege did on these nights!
And so special to spend time friends forever, Hakan & Monica Olsson & their great kids .. Jens, Antone and the amazingly talented Elin, who has done beautiful graphics for many of our Train Wreck releases.
Coming back for a Sweden/Norway tour from November 8th through the 15th.. check our TRAINWRECK website .. we’ll post as the shows and the towns are confirmed. Hoping that one of the shows is here, at the amazing Victoria Theater.. with our kind host & friend, Laticia.
